A lamp had been knocked over, and the throw rug was wadded against one wall. In the front room the TV was loudly blaring on the cartoon channel, and the family room was strewn with toys and various items of clothing.<BR><BR>In the kitchen, dishes filled the sink, breakfast food was spilled on the counter, the fridge door was open wide, dog food was spilled on the floor, a broken glass lay under the table, and a small pile of sand was spread by the back door.<BR><BR>He quickly headed up the stairs, stepping over toys and more piles of clothes, looking for his wife. He was worried she might be ill, or that something serious had happened. He was met with a small trickle of water as it made its way out the bathroom door.<BR><BR>As he peered inside he found wet towels, scummy soap and more toys strewn over the floor. Miles of toilet paper lay in a heap and toothpaste had been smeared over the mirror and walls.<BR><BR>As he rushed to the bedroom, he found his wife still curled up in the bed in her pyjamas, reading a novel. She looked up at him, smiled, and asked how his day went. The next day, Grandpa got up 6 a.m. in the <BR>morning, dashed to the bank, picked up a big bunch of wild flowers before sunrise, waited there for his sweetheart to come. The paid was really good and so were the work conditions. For that reason, the woodcutter was determined to do his best.<BR>His boss gave him an axe and showed him the area where he was supposed to work.<BR><BR>The first day, the woodcutter brought 18 trees.<BR><BR>"Congratulations," the boss said. "Go on that way!"<BR><BR>Very motivated for the boss' words, the woodcutter try harder the next day, but he only could bring 15 trees. The third day he try even harder, but he only could bring 10 trees. Day after day he was bringing less and less trees.<BR><BR>"I must be losing my strength", the woodcutter thought. He went to the boss and apologized, saying that he could not understand what was going on.<BR><BR>"When was the last time you sharpened your axe?" the boss asked.<BR><BR>"Sharpen? I had NO TIME to sharpen my axe. He didn't have a lot of money and, instead of a tractor, he used an old horse to plow his field.<BR><BR>One afternoon, while working in the field, the horse dropped dead. Everyone in the village said, Oh, what a horrible thing to happen. The farmer said simply, We'll see. He was so at peace and so calm, that everyone in the village got together and, admiring his attitude, gave him a new horse as a gift.<BR><BR>Everyone's reaction now was, What a lucky man. And the farmer said, We'll see.<BR><BR>A couple days later, the new horse jumped a fence and ran away. Everyone in the village shook their heads and said, What a poor fellow!<BR><BR>The farmer smiled and said, We'll see.<BR><BR>Eventually, the horse found his way home, and everyone again said, What a fortunate man.<BR><BR>The farmer said, We'll see.<BR><BR>Later in the year, the farmer's young boy went out riding on the horse and fell and broke his leg.
